Successful completion of study abroad in China or equivalent

This module is approved as an Elective

Objectives

On completion of this module, students should have mastered the pronunciation, tones and the basic sentence patterns of Cantonese and should be able to conduct simple situational dialogues in Cantonese.

Syllabus

The module covers the pronunciation, tones, basic grammar and vocabulary of Cantonese. Dialogues, role-play and audio tapes are used to develop oral and aural skills.

Teaching Methods

Practical classes: 20 x 1 hour

Private study

2 hrs per week listening to tapes (20 hrs)
2.5 hrs per week preparation and review of classes (25 hrs)
10 hrs exam preparation
